About

I am the lucky recipient of a 2010 Phillips Foundation Robert Novak Journalism Fellowship.

The Phillips Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides this year-long grant to allow young journalists the opportunity to pursue original, independent research on a topic of their choosing – the main guideline being that the project support the values of a free society.

I chose to write about the country of my birth, and to explore and document why this central European nation has made such outsize contributions in Afghanistan.

When I won the fellowship and had to (sadly) leave my job as a reporter for The Daily Caller in Washington D.C., Fishbowl DC posted this farewell note and video which summed up the project nicely:

She has won a Phillips Foundation grant to study Poland’s involvement in Afghanistan and the countries’ close relationship to the U.S. on the War on Terror.

“While we’re sad to lose her, there’s no doubt that she’s about to embark on a very exciting journey, if I’m allowed to be so trite,” said Daily Caller spokeswoman Becca Glover Watkins.

Former Defense Sec. Donald Rumsfeld gave her high praise Tuesday night at a Phillips Foundation dinner where she spoke. Rumsfeld gave her no less than a standing ovation at the end of her speech. Watch him pop up (solo!) at the end of the short YouTube clip below.

I am always looking for Polish soldiers who have spent time in Afghanistan – especially those who were there in the early stages of the conflict. If that’s you, please email me.

Szukam Polskich żołnierzy którzy służyli w Afganistanie oraz osoby z personelu pomoćniczego. Szczególnie stale szukam tych którzy byli tam na samym początku w 2002 roku. Prosze o kontakt ze mna.

I am also a member of the American-Polish Forum, a volunteer non-profit organization run by a wonderful group of young professionals in D.C.  In addition to raising awareness of issues with significance to both the U.S. and Poland,  APF works to support Polish-American youth through networking events and a lecture series. In 2009, we organized the first-ever large-scale care package drive for the 2,000 Polish troops stationed in Afghanistan.  Our annual report can be found here.

Thanks for reading.
